The Buffalo Stampede 10-Mile Run/Walk, the race that kicked off Sacramento’s road-racing tradition, celebrates its 43nd anniversary this year! We are celebrating with music, special prizes, and other commemorative awards!
The scenic course is part of the Buzz Oates RunSac Race Series and offers a $200 bonus prize for breaking the course records. As the sister race to the Urban Cow Half Marathon, the Buffalo Stampede is the perfect training distance for this great event, and for your other fall half-marathons. So don’t miss out! It is one of the five events the Buffalo Chips Running Club sponsors each year, including the Free Fourth of July Five Mile Run in River Park, to encourage health and fitness in the community, and celebrate runners and walkers of all ages and levels.
- Medallions to all finishers of the children’s 1/2-mile fun run!

- Awards to top three finishers in 5-year age groups for the Buffalo Stampede Race.
- Stampede Race participants must start at 7:30 AM to be eligible for awards.

Buzz Oates Series
The Buffalo Stampede 10-mile Run is part of the Buzz Oates Run Sac Race Series. The Buzz Oates Run Sac Race Series is a year-long points competition with top area runners of all ages competing for over $6,000 in prize money and bonuses. Points are earned based on age-graded performances in more than a dozen top Sacramento-area road races.

The Buffalo Stampede starts and finishes at Rio Americano High School in Sacramento, California. This local tradition kicks off the start of fall’s racing season. The fast course is part of the Buzz Oates Run Sac Race Series. It is one of the five events that the Buffalo Chips Running Club sponsors each year. Along with the Stampede, the morning’s festivities include the popular free kids run that is overseen by Rio Americano’s High School cross country team. There is a $200 bonus prize if you break the course record!
